
Dr. Carol Thompson-Forbes is an accomplished Emergency Physician with a post graduate degree in Emergency Medicine from the University of the West Indies. She was Consultant in the Emergency Department (2009-2014) and then Head of the Emergency Department of the Cornwall Regional Hospital.
She moved to head the Emergency Department of the InterHealth Canada, Turks and Caicos Islands Hospitals in 2014. In November 2021, through her leadership, her team participated in the hospital’s most recent accreditation exercise achieving the top-rated diamond level for the third time by Accreditation Canada International.
Dr. Thompson-Forbes also held the post of Associate Lecturer in Emergency Medicine for the University of the West Indies Western Campus (2009 - 2014). She was trained as a P.A.H.O Mass Casualty Management instructor. She used this skill to train many first responders in Mass Casualty Management both in Jamaica and overseas.
She is also a trained instructor in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
She led her department through yearly peer reviews of her staff’s performance and their documentation. These audits usually include experts in the field that are taken from the region to assist in unbiased review. She is dedicated to quality care and the process by which this is achieved, through audits and developing high quality teamwork. She encouraged her team to participate in twice monthly departmental Continuing Medical Education sessions to ensure a high educational standard among the Emergency Department doctors.
Dr. Thompson-Forbes is passionate about the care of the patients that enter her department and advocate for their excellent evidence-based care.
She is now the Lead Physician at GWest Urgent Care. She brings her 25 years of experience as a physician to this unit.
